SEATTLE – The Yankees sent out Clarke Schmidt looking to take game 1 against the Mariners.

Injury Report:

  • Oswaldo Cabrera was injured in the top of the ninth when scoring on a Judge Sac Fly, and was carted off the field. Prayers up.

Notes/Analysis:

  • FINAL: 8-5 NYY
    • WP: Schmidt (1-1) 4.73
    • LP: Hancock (1-2) 6.91
  • Record: 24-17

  • Clarke Schmidt's Final Line:
    • 6.0 IP | 3 H | 3 ER | 6 K | 2 BB | 92 P | 2 HR | 4.73 ERA
      • Clarke did not pitch bad, but it felt like he was playing with fire all game, until the offense gave him the lead. The two home runs are also a concern.
Every Yankee had a hit tonight
  • Trent Grisham with two more home runs tonight, making it look easy.
  • The Yankee offense put 6 runs up in the top of the fifth, including a 3-run HR off the bat of Austin Wells, that helped to ease the nerves a bit for the Yankees.
  • Austin Wells adds on later with a Sac Fly, making it 8-2. NYY
  • Mark Leiter Jr. gave up an RBI single, making it 8-3 NYY
  • Tim Hill came in and gave up a two-run HR, making it 8-5 NYY
    • Devin Williams got the final out of the inning to keep the lead
  • Anthony Volpe came up in the top of the ninth and answers the bell, hitting a two-run HR to make it 10-5 NYY
  • Judge hits a Sac Fly in the ninth, scoring Cabrera who would be carted off the field after seemingly injuring his left leg. As I mentioned in the injury section, prayers for Oswaldo Cabrera.
  • Ian Hamilton comes on and gets the final three outs to shut the door
