Yanks Sweep Double Header
My Takeaways from Today's Games:
New York — The Yankees entered play today with a bitter taste in their mouths after an awful loss on Friday looking to bounce back and win a Series, but it would take two to take the series.
Game 1:
The Yankees handed the ball to their Ace in Game one, looking to go 6-0 in his starts in 2025. Fried’s command was shaky in the first two innings, allowing 1 run (a single/E5, Wild pitch) on a Groundout, but walked 2 in the first, and allowed 4 hits and a lot of deep counts (37 pitches). Max Fried would settle down in the third, but Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman would not, but we will get to that later.
Fried continued to pitch well, giving six innings of one-run ball. Yerry De Los Santos would pitch 2 scoreless innings and Tyler Matzek would finish the game allowing 1 run in the ninth.

As for the Offense, the first two innings were very quiet offensively with the only an Anthony Volpe double, but things changed in the third inning. The Yankees would force Kevin Gausman to throw a Blue Jays’ record 53 pitches in the inning.
It went:
Dominguez F7 (1)
Cabrera BB
Rice BB
Judge 1B
Bellinger SF (2)
Goldschmidt BB
Chisholm RBI BB
Volpe RBI BB
Wells 3-RBI 2B
Blue Jays’ pitcher Kevin Gausman Ejected by HP Ump Chris Conroy
Dominguez BB
Cabrera 1-1 GO (3)
The Yankees put up six runs, five with two outs, very impressive.
The Yanks would add more runs in the fifth inning on a Volpe HR, Wells Double, Dominguez Walk, and a Cabrera two-RBI double, making it 9-1 New York.
In the sixth inning, a Belli walk and a Goldi Double would plate another run, making it 10-1 NY.
The 11th run was scored in the eighth inning on Jazz reaching on a Fielder’s Choice/E6.
The Yankees win the game 11-2, with good vibes heading into Game 2.
Game 2:
Clarke Schmidt would take the ball in Game 2 looking for his first win of the 2025 season. Schmidt pitched ok, only giving up 1 hit, a Homer to Anthony Santander. The spot that concerns me is the fact that he waked 4 batters in 5 innings of work, throwing 90 pitches, but his stuff was overall nasty.
The Bullpen was untouchable, allowing 2 hits and preserving the lead, looking nasty, striking out a combined 6 in the process. The Blue Jays struck out 12 times in game two.
Note: Aaron Boone noted before the Game that Devin Williams will, “for now”, not be the closer. Luke Weaver will get the majority of the save opportunities, and he got the final 3 outs tonight.

The Offense did enough to get a win. Trent Grisham lead the game off with a Solo HR, setting the tone nice and early.
Judge would break the scoreless tie with his ninth eighth HR making it 2-1 Yanks.
Later in the inning, Jazz would singled, advancing to second on a Volpe groundout. Jazz would come around to score on an RBI double from Jasson Dominguez.
The next batter, J.C. Escarra would line an RBI single to right.
Escarra was not done yet, hitting his first Major League Homer off Blue Jays’ reliever, and former Yankee Legend Chad Green.
As I mentioned before, Luke Weaver came in with his Star Wars entrance and got the final three outs on 11 pitches.
The Yankees head to Baltimore, to face an Orioles team on a three game losing streak, with a 10-17 record.
