SACRAMENTO – The Yankees sent Carlos Rodon out to extend the team's win streak to 4 and give the team a series win against the A's.

Injury Report:

Notes/Analysis:

  • FINAL: 11-7 A's
    • WP: Holman (4-0) 0.82
    • LP: Cruz (1-1) 2.66
  • Record: 22-17

  • Carlos Rodon did not have his best stuff today:
    • 6.0 IP | 8 H | 4 ER | 10 K | 0 BB | 98 P | 2 HR |3.29 ERA
    • Rodon struggled with the long ball again, and the big blow came after a leadoff single followed by a bunt single, a 3-run HR off the bat of Brent Rooker.
    • Volpe had another error, his 4th on the season (though it feels like there are many more than that).
  • Judge hit his first HR of the roadtrip off Sears in the 4th, getting the Yanks on the board. He then made it 4-2 with another one of his homers in the 6th inning, his MLB-Leading 14th of the season.
  • Wells hits a Sac Fly making it 4-3 A's
  • Cabrera hits a Sac Fly to tie it 4-4 in the 6th inning
  • Then, Oswald Peraza hits a go-ahead 2-Run HR to make it 6-4 NYY
    • The Yankees scored 5 runs in the 6th inning
  • Fernando Cruz came on and struck out the first batter he faced, then he allowed a bloop single, a double (both could have been/should have been caught), then a go-ahead 3-Run HR to Langalers, putting the A's up 7-6 in the 7th.
    • Yankee Pitching gave up a combined 3 HR's and 7 RBI's today. Safe to say the ball was carrying.
  • Yankees strand 2 runners on against Mason Miller, who came out for the 4-out Save, and achieved just that.
  • Then Hamilton came in and looked like crap, loading the bases with 1 out (single and 2 walks), before striking out Rooker, but Boone came to get him and put in Tyler Matzek, who gave up a 2-RBI single and a 2-RBI double, then got Schuman to strikeout to end the inning. 11-6 A's.

This was another very winnable game for the Bombers, but a combination of a bullpen meltdown by Cruz and Hamilton, and bad outfield defense by Dominguez and Grisham costed them outs. The Yankees will try to win the series tomorrow against former Yankee, Luis Severino.
