ANAHEIM – The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels played game three of their three game set on May 29th, 2025 at Angel Stadium. Entering the game, the Yankees held a six-game lead in the AL East, while the Angels were trying to snap a four-game losing streak.

Injury Report/Roster Moves:

Notes/Analysis:

  • FINAL: 1-0 NYY
    • WP: Schmidt (2-2) 4.58
    • LP: Kikuchi (1-5) 3.17
    • Leiter Jr. (2)
  • Record: 35-20
    • The Yankees hold a seven game lead in the AL East and are one game back of the Detroit Tigers for best record in the AL.
    • 15 games over .500 is the most by the Yankees, so far, in 2025.

  • Clarke Schmidt's Final Line:
    • 6.0 IP | 4 H | 0 R | 0 ER | 4 K | 1 BB | 99 P | 4.58 ERA
      • Clarke Schmidt gave up some hard contact over the first three innings, but really beared down as the game went on and was in total command. It was nice to see that Schmidt only walked one batter, as that has been an issue for him this season.
  • The Yankees scored first in the first on Kikuchi after a leadoff single, an intentional walk to Aaron Judge (one of two on the night) and a walk to Bellinger loaded the bases with one out for Volpe, who hit a Sac Fly. Volpe has at least one RBI in each game this series.
  • The Yankees would load the bases with two outs in the second, after Angels manager Ron Washington walked Aaron Judge intentionally, but Cody Bellinger popped out to end the inning.
  • The Yankees struggled today with scoring runners on base, leaving 10 runners on base, six through the first two innings.
  • Ian Hamilton came in and gave the Yankees a big five outs, exiting with a runner on second and two outs. Tim Hill would come on and throw one pitch to retire the side without allowing a run.
  • Mark Leiter Jr. comes on and gets the final three outs to secure the victory!
    • I will say, the home plate umpire did help him through the inning, especially with the last pitch of the game.
