Yankees blow the game after leading in the 8th inning

New York – The Yankees began a 3-game set against the Red-Hot Padres looking to snap a losing streak, sending Carlos Rodón out to the mound.

Injury Report:

  • Giancarlo Stanton will face live pitching this week

Notes/Analysis:

  • FINAL: 4-3 SDP
    • WP: Bergert (1-0) 0.00
    • LP: Weaver (0-1) 0.59 BS
    • SV: Suarez (14)
  • Carlos Rodon pitched excellent through the rain today.
  • Trent Grisham hit a 2-run HR off Pivetta
  • Volpe hit a sac fly scoring Goldschmidt from third
  • In the eighth inning, Boone went to Devin Williams who struck out the first hitter he faced, then walked Tyler Wade, allowed a single then struck out Tatis and then he walked Arraiz to load the bases for Machado.
  • Boone brought Weaver in and Machado hit a double, then Bogarts hit a single to take a 4-3 lead in the eighth. That was Weaver's first earned run this season and first blown save.
  • The Yankees could not rally and get a run to come back against the Padres bullpen.
    • The Yankees have no ability to come back in games they trail in:
  • This could go down as an early season worst loss of the year because it's as game your starter put it all on the line and your bullpen blew it.
    • Williams should have been pulled before facing Luis Arrais.
    • Williams has now given up more runs in 2025 than in the past two years combined
