Stop Blaming Brian Cashman

Hindsight is always 20/20

New York — In wake of last night’s 4-2 loss to the division rival Blue Jays and blown save from Devin Williams, the Yankee Fans have turned their anger to someone else, Brian Cashman.

First of all, how did Cashman know that Williams would post an 11.25 ERA in 8.0 innings pitched? I did not know Cashman had a crystal ball.

When the Yankees made the trade in December, we were all excited because of the track record of consistency Williams has had in his career. The reality is, Williams simply can’t close anymore.

Brian Cashman can’t be blamed for Williams not doing his job, or criticized for making the trade in the first place because Luke Weaver was so great as closer down the stretch.

The Yankees in trading for Williams were trying to shorten games by creating a 1-2 punch out of the back end of the ‘pen with Weaver for the eighth inning and Williams for the ninth, and obviously that backfired. The idea itself was great, making games shorter at the back end, but right now, on April 26th, 2025, its not working, and for the time being, he can’t be used in high leverage situations and the Yankees need to make a change, and they need to do it now.
