BREAKING: The Yankees promote George Lombard Jr. to AA Somerset

New York – Jeff Passan of ESPN reports on Sunday Night that George Lombard Jr. , the 19 Year-old infielder has been promoted to AA Somerset by the Yankees.
The New York Yankees are promoting shortstop George Lombard Jr., their top prospect, to Double-A Somerset, sources tell ESPN. Lombard, 19, was hitting .329/.496/.488 with one homer, 13 RBIs, 11 stolen bases and a 23-to-22 walk-to-strikeout ratio at High-A. A real big-time talent.

The Yankees think big things of Lombard Jr, and rival scouts think this kid is going to be a star. Lombard Jr. will likely be protected by the Yankees in potential trade talks over the next few years. Lombard was crushing at the High- level and the Yankees certainly want to see what he's got at AA. If Lombard Jr. continues to produce at the level he has over the past few months, we could see him at some point in the 2026 season.

The Yankees bringing him up to AA now is also a sign that they might not be looking to upgrade the third base position at the 2025 trade deadline, at least with nobody who will be here after the 2025 season. The only question - where will he play and will the Yankees play him over LeMahieu?
