Game Notes:

Baltimore, MD – The Yankees continued their series in Baltimore today, and made some loud noise, and quick.

Injury Notes:

  • DJ LeMahieu received a cortisone shot in his hip today “kind of preemptively,” according to Boone. He felt something might be developing, so they wanted to address it early. The goal now is for him to resume rehab games by Thursday or Friday.
  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. exited tonight's game with "right flank discomfort," the Yankees say

First Inning:

  • Trent Grisham, Aaron Judge and Ben Rice go back-to-back-to-back (and a belly to belly) to take a quick 3-0 lead, on 5 pitches seen. Goldschmidt grounds out. Bellinger continued the trend with another. Jazz hits a triple before being removed with an apparent injury. Volpe then doubles in Peraza who pinch ran for Jazz. Wells grounded out, Cabrera with an infield single and Grisham flew out to deep center to end the inning. 5-0 at the end of the first. The Yankees are the first team in MLB history to have multiple games with four Homers in the first inning in a single season.
  • Rodon strikes Mullins off to lead off the first, gets Adley to ground out (nice play by Volpe), and a flyout from Henderson on a really nice catch by Judge.

Second Inning:

  • Judge grounds out to lead off the second, followed by another Rice Homer, a Goldschmidt strikeout, followed by a Bellinger groundout to end the inning.
  • Rodon gets Mountcastle to fly out, Lauriano grounds out on an awsome play by Volpe and Jazz and gets Urias swinging to end the inning.

Third Inning:

  • Peraza grounds out to lead off the inning, then Volpe grounds out and Wells strikes out, going down in order on 7 pitches for the first time in the game.
  • Rodon gets Rivera swinging on a WICKED changeup, gets Mateo swinging on a sweeper, and Carlson grounds out to Volpe.

Fourth Inning:

  • Cabrera leads off the inning by grounding out, then Grisham grounds out to third, Judge walks on four pitches, Rice with a single, his third hit of the game, Goldschmidt with an RBI single making it 7-0, Bellinger walks to load the bases for Peraza who hits an RBI single to make it 9-0, knocking Gibson out of the game. Volpe would come up and strike out on a foul tip against Bowman to end the half inning.
  • Rodon gets Mullins looking for his fifth strikeout in four innings, gets Adley line out to Rodon and gets Henderson

Fifth Inning:

  • Wells leads off the inning by flying out to center, Cabrera then singles, Grisham strikes out (on ball 6), Judge walks, Rice gets hit by a pitch, Goldschmidt hits an RBI single, Bellinger hits an RBI double, then Peraza grounds out to end the inning.
  • Rodon sends the O's down 1-2-3, with some nice defensive help from Volpe.

Sixth inning:

  • Volpe leads the inning off with a double, Wells (0-4), grounds back to the pitcher, Cabrera strikes out looking and Grisham flies out to the track.
  • Rodon leads off the inning by walking Rivera, then Mateo doubles off the wall, and Rodon lost his command in the sixth, going down 2-0 to Carlson before getting him to ground out, but a run scored, making it 12-1. Mullins then popped out, and Maverick Handley in is first Major League at-bat (welcome to the show, kid), strikes out swinging.

Seventh Inning:

  • Judge leads off with a single, then Rice lines out with a hard hit ball, Goldschmidt grounded into a forceout, Belli walked, Peraza hit an infield single, Volpe reaches on an E6, Wells stikes out, leaving the bases loaded. Wells was 0-5 on the day.
  • Henderson takes Rodon deep to lead the inning off Rodon, on a pitch way inside, ending Rodon's night.
  • Ian Hamilton came in and retired the side, in order.

Eighth Inning:

  • Cabrera gets hit with a 2-2 pitch to lead off the inning, then Grisham reached on an E4, the O's third error of the game, Pablo Reyes then had an RBI single to right, Ben Rice then strikes out swinging, Escarra went down swinging, and Bellinger flies out to end the inning.
  • Hamilton looked nasty, retiring the side and striking out two in the process.

Ninth Inning:

  • Peraza flew out, Volpe grounded out, Wells homered to center making it 15-2, Cabrera strikes out to end the half inning.
  • Tyler Matzek came in for the ninth, he walked Kjerstad, then he faced Handley and strikes him out, then Holliday hits a double with 1 out. Ryan Mountcastle hits a sac fly making it 15-3, Laureano walked and Urias flies out to end the game.

NOTES:

  • The Yankees made some more history as I mentioned earlier, by being the first team to hit 4 home runs in the 1st inning multiple times in the same season in MLB history
  • Rodón, obviously, looked great today, allowing just two runs and retired the first 15 batters of the game. He has given up two earned runs, and 1 homer in his last 3 starts.
  • The Yankees have had double digit hits for the second game in a row, and had 10 or more runs for the second time in 4 games.
  • The only position player that did not get repts today was Jasson Dominguez
  • Cody Bellinger was 2-4 with 2 Walks and drove in 3 (HR, 2RBI double). His Flyout to the opposite field in the eighth inning being hard hit it a very good sign. It seems like he is turning it around. He has looked a lot better at the plate over the past week or two
  • Volpe had 2 doubles in this game, making it 4 2-hit games in the last 5 games and is tied for the most doubles in MLB (10).
  • Every Yankee had at least 1 hit. They had 19 hits cumulative.
  • Jazz was removed due to injury, as I mentioned in the Injury section
  • Yankees will go for the Series Win with Carlos Carrasco pitching. He pitched 5-innings of 1-hit, no run ball against the Jays last Friday.
  • The Yankees high leverage relievers (Cruz, Leiter Jr, Hill and Weaver) are all available tomorrow.
